ANZA Thirds registers their 1st win of the season

ANZA CC Thirds played Bengal CC at TCB and after losing the toss managed just one over in which Gal captured one wicket from a nice catch at point by Clarke before the rain started. We feared a repeat of last weeks match against SCC which was a wash out but after a heavy dousing we raked away water and dumped some sand to finally get the umpires to agree to resuming the game......reduced to 23 over per side. What transpired was a fantastic effort in the field with Gal 2/14, Mandadi 1/10, Soota 2/14, Render 2/7 and two run outs (Joiner, Robinson) to have Bengal all out for 67. Matt Smith (12) & Jonno Seifman (10) opened then Dhruv Soota dominated with the bat to score 38 from 35 to see us through to the target in 14 overs for a 10 point win! Thirds League debuts for the club from Murthy Koushik behind the stumps, Jonno Seifman, Venkat Mandadi opening the bowling, Marcus Robinson and Dhruv were of course accompanied by the Thirds initiation - I might add that the "vessel" did look particularly rancid prior to pouring the first beer into it.

India Association next week will be a bigger challenge.
