Apologies for the late match report but it's been a hell of a week in the aviation industry, a week which became even more disappointing last night with The Blues loss to Queensland in the State of Origin "decider"!

Where to begin?

A great start to the weekend with the Mighty Hawks continuing on their way in a winning season with a crushing victory against West Coast on Friday night - bring on the Almanac Rev! ....... Saturday saw the Wallabies triumph over the French and, with Robbie Deans, at the helm even Footrot was happy - sort of!

Only one thing could further improve this weekend - a Champs win!

.................and so, the weekend did not improve.

Toss - Lost, Credit Suisse to bat, field set, Spainy (he is an angry young man) with new ball in hand and the match was underway. Sadly, within 3 overs that old cricket cliché of "catches win matches" was being mumbled and grumbled as the Champs proceeded to put down 3 catches - a couple of gettable opportunities at cover and mid-off and a very tough "chance" being put down by Footrot behind square which resulted in a visit to the blood bin!

I hasten to add that all 3 chances were off Spainy and , it has to be said , that at this point I would have hated to be the guy to drop a 4th but thankfully Rev managed to stop the rot by catching one as clean as a whistle on his chest in the spot recently vacated by Footrot and the Champs were underway.

1 for 19, became 2 for 35, became 3 for 35 and a miserable start had suddenly turned. 4 for 67, became 5 for 69 (@ drinks) , became 6 for 73 became 7 for 73 and Champs were on top, pumping and unbeatable!

Spainy had finished a superb spell (3/16), Rev (2/32 - including a maiden) had them coming out nicely and a sub 100 score to chase was well and truly on the cards.

Ya Dreamin'!

7 for 73 became 8 for 143 and that 70 run partnership was to prove to be crucial with the final score of 152 again being far in excess of what should have been the target.

Searching for positives in the field.......... as indicated by the 7 or 8 dropped catches the field placements must have been OK! Chiro's outstanding stumping standing up to Spainy, Spainys lethal arm to secure a run out, Forday G timing his leap superbly to grab a catch at short mid wicket - he'd landed by the time the ball had arrived and catches held by Rev and Ben Yeoh.

.....but the highlight in the field was Spainys celebration and subsequent ignoring of Younger when a catch was held by the latter after his earlier spilt "sitter"! ... (may have to review the team rules!)

152 to chase down and with what I thought was a very strong batting line up there was no doubt victory would be ours - again , horribly wrong.

From the 2nd ball of the 2nd over when Benn Dunn went for zero (pack the kit Bearded One) there was a steady stream of wickets with only Forday G (15), a good partnership (46) between Munib (24) and Chiro (21) and a handy innings from Spainy (16) standing between Credit Suisse and victory........the rest was ordinary. Although it has to be said that Credit Suisse fielded superbly and held every catch that came their way - Catches win Matches - All Out 121!

Man of the Match - A Spain!

And so to this weekend back to the Champs happy hunting ground at CSC to take on SIA2 in my personal grudge match. As the SWEBBS invite said a win would do wonders for the soul.

Over to Geoff for the Stats update.
