Match Report
ANZA Champs vs Fusion CC
Sat 31st May @ Turf City B

Fusion CC (All Out 146)/ Champs (4/93-18 Overs)

Fusion CC won by 5 runs on Parabola Method.................

Parabola: A form or arch defined by a moving point which remains equidistant from a fixed point inside the arch and a moving point along a line.....
Parabola: A flexible conductor, with constant weight per unit of horizontal length - rather than the conductor length itself - suspended between two points is most commonly approximated as a parabola for sag and tension calculations.
Parabola: A type of curve, any point of which is equally distant from a fixed point, called the focus, and a fixed straight line called the directrix
Parabola: The shape of the path a free-falling body takes though the air......
Parabola: The graph of a quadratic equation
Parabola: The name of the second single from Tool's album "Lateralus"

You pick your own definition from the above but, whichever way you look at it, the curve just doesn't seem quite right!.... the only possible answer I can think of must be contained in the lyrics of the second song of Tool's album - Lateralus.

Turf City B, Saturday 31st May...... conditions? - overcast;..... outfield?
- damp and heavy;........ Champs? - looking sharp;..... Toss? - lost.....Fusion to bat. A day that shall, from this day forward, be known as Parabola Day!

Despite the early morning rain and heavy outfield it was a great day for cricket with Turf City providing ideal conditions for the Champs to redeem themselves after the disappointing performance vs the Lanka Lions, the Champs had come to play.

......And come to play they had! A great effort by all bowlers , with excellent support in the field, saw a steady stream of wickets fall with Fusion never able to grab any momentum and subsequently succumbing in the final over, off the final ball of the innings, for a very gettable 146.

Wickets to all - Munib (3), Lord Gibb (2), Reverand Goodwin (2) , Disco (1), Spainy (1) and a Ben Yeoh a one over cameo (1) ..........all bowling a tight "line and length" with that dastardly W.N Extras hardly in sight.........only 19 wides, with special mention to Spainy (Nil wides/ Nil no balls). It's quite amazing what not giving an extra 30 - 40 runs and additional 7-8 overs can do in restricting the score.

Great Effort lads - with 5 batsmen having their stumps taken out and an LBW testament to the line that was being bowled.

And in the field, Speedy Gonzales, Josh Ghosh, sweeping the boundary and bringing up a spray of mud with every step taken managing to take the catch of the day to compliment his earlier diving effort. Matt Quin and Limbrick also holding on to catches after both having put down earlier tough chances and all Champs producing generally good ground-fielding.

146!....very, very gettable.

But alas, again it was not to be...........storms clouds were brewing, lightening flashed and despite Will's confident weather prediction that it "won't rain" it did look ominous.

Things with the bat did not start too well, Limbrick out for 1 in disappointing fashion, Will (0 - pack the kit!) trying to go over the top and, within a blink, the Champs were 2/14. With the batting depth to come certainly not in trouble but for the first time Fusion were remotely "in the game".

Forday G and the Rev steadied the ship before Forday G decided to take on the in close fieldsman, was quite rightfully sent back by the Rev and was Run Out (slipped) for a well crafted 28 (1 six).... the score - 3 for 54.

Then it happened, the cricketing gods which had been shining on the Champs for much of the day , decided to turn, with Weatherman Will being proved wrong as it started to rain. Gently at first, then heavier......play managed to get through to drinks with the Champs well placed and noses in front but slightly behind on the Parabola method.

But the umpires were here to see out the 30 overs and with a bit of cajoling managed to get Fusion back on the field . Unfortunately the rain got heavier and, three overs later it was off the field again - this time never to return. At the closure Champs were 5 runs short on the Parabola method.... Damn the weather, Damn the cricketing gods, Damn the lack of covers and Damn mathematical equations!

Key performers with the bat were a pumped up Rev continuing his good form
(35 N.O off 37), Forday G (28 off no comment) and Josh (13 N.O off 10).

Champs can look at this one as a moral victory. On top for much of the day and , with 12 overs of game time left, plenty of batting and not much to chase down it does seem ludicrous to have lost.

Tha Champs take a break for this week with a couple of Dreamers games scheduled and the Dennis Meyer Memorial sixes competition at CSC so plenty of opportunities for a game.

Also, a special thanks to John and Yolande for opening their home to the Champs and hosting the BBQ on Saturday night after the game. While the loss did not quite lend itself to a Champs victory celebration it was a great night and an excellent chance to get together. Also thanks to the guys that didn't play for also making it along.....this is a great squad of guys and am sure the wins will come.

Over to Forday G for the stats analysis.

Cheers
Steve
