ANZA Seconds vs SPA Match Report

Scorecard

Another day at Turf City (still looking great) and another visiting team call correctly and bat first.

SPA openers batted positively and made themselves a bit of luck but generally looked comfortable against the medium pacers. Lats started to tighten things up when he came on but once again it was Westy who made the breakthrough, dropping straight onto a good line and length and seeing his second ball looped out to Jonno at point. Two more wickets followed within 20 odd runs, Vinod juggling but holding a sharp catch off Westy at Gully and Lats going straight through the new batsman. SPA then put on a good partnership until Corbon broke through getting the SPA opener to slap a tired cut to Justin in the covers for 64. Some very clean hitting from the SPA middle order followed, with light rain making the ball slippery and difficult for the fielding side, and SPA finished with 235-6 off their 40 overs. Vinod and Rob picked up a wicket each during the slog but all the bowlers except Westy and Lats were slapped around pretty thoroughly. Another disappointing 33 wides, only Westy (again) keeping a clean sheet in this department.

With the ground in good nick and the pitch seemingly playing better than usual 235 looked possible. However the SPA openers bowled good line and length and with Scott McAllister sawn off by another umpiring error we were not off to a good start. The top order folded again leaving us 5-32 and with the outfield noticeably slowing it was always going to be too much for the lower order to do. Westy dug in superbly and was supported well by Koushik and Vinod in particular but runs are supposed to be scored by the top order and it didn't happen again.

Westy ended up 46no, next highest score was 14 from Vinod (extras aside).

Team for the next game will be Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy, Westy and Westy as the 2s look to rediscover their winning touch.
