ANZA Seconds vs IA Match Report

Scorecard

Fordy gave me the scorebook in a subtle message that I have to write the match report…

As the captain walked out to the centre for the toss, his team huddled together waiting for a signal from the opposition captain. Sure enough, Fordy called incorrectly and the IA2’s captain indicated he had chosen to bat.

Mark ‘The Hammer’ Christensen opened from the empty paddock end and struck immediately to have IA 1 for 0 in the fist over. At this point the late Paul Lattimore arrived (he’s not really dead, he just never turns up to see Fordy lose the toss). This became 2 for 30 odd in a couple more overs.

From this point the heart of the IA batting settled. Pearcey came on from the club house end and trundled in uphill, through the mud and into a flurry of expansive shot making. IA rattled along and got to 2 – 100 from twenty overs. At this point the match turned in the Magoo’s favour. Pearcey switched to the empty paddock end and ran down hill like an old Beefy Botham. 0-34 became 3-46. With 2 overs remaining and the Hammer warming up ready to strike at the tail, Westy bowled his strike ball and the last man left having missed a full toss and possibly out lbw.

IA all out in 37 overs for 160.

During the afternoon break Corbin tore a heartilage, where upon Moose unaffected by ten beers, generously drove Corbin to the emergency ward in the Fordster van. Moose assured us that if Corbin had not had a heart attack prior to the trip to the hospital he was definitely a whiter shade of pale by the time they arrived.

Fordy and Matt Smith were unconcerned by Mooses driving as they went out to commence the innings against the IA attack. They made a solid if unspectacular opening. Fordy departed first not offering a stroke to an offspinner, I was in the toilets when Matt returned to the boundary, but am sure he was out. Ben Burgess and Pete Alexander settled in for a long partnership. Unfortunately at this point Ben complemented Pete’s batting by likening him to Shaun Marsh. Pete thought he said Geoff Marsh, got upset and proceeded to hit a series of sixes and fours that threatened the safety of both the Millenium and CSC club members. 2-20 off 5 overs became 3-90 off 15 when Pete played a defensive prod to deep mid wicket.

Two batsmen came and went quickly bringing the Tin Man-like figure of Clive Tillbrook to the crease. Clive realizing the seriousness of the situation began to farm the strike to protect Ben from the IA bowlers. This produced a 30 run partnership which put the Magoos on top but not quite home. The match stood at 7-145 off 36 overs. Having built his confidence during his partnership with Clive, Ben was now ready to face the bowling again. With 10 runs left Ben hit a six and the game was all but over, leaving Pearcey to hit the winning runs in front of his family, claim the glory and leave Ben on 49 not out. The Magoos claimed another victory for ANZA and secured a trifecta of wins for ANZA against IA in 1’s, 2’s, and 3’s. Despite what the SCA website may say this leaves the 2’s unbeaten for the year and ready for a well deserved break until July.

*** Corbin remains in fine health and is still planning to be wed.

*** Thanks to Koush for his splendid keeping and juggling routine.

*** Due to time constraints, sections of the game where I could not put shit on people have been omitted.
