Shining Lights on a Rainy Easter Weekend

Rain worked both ways for ANZA on the weekend.

On Saturday ANZA Champs were saved by the rain. Marina 3 had rattled up 4 for 220 from 29 of their allotted 35 overs before the heavens opened, washing out the game, and blowing the roof off the Turf City B shelter. Highlights here were the inaugural League wickets for Klaus Anton, Shaun Giacomo, Rob Davies and Wayne Forday. Mark Laudi was solid behind the stumps bagging two catches.

On Sunday rain was on the other foot (to mix a metaphor). ANZA 2 bludgeoned 7/219 off 36 overs (reduced due to late start). The highlight of this was a magnificent 123 to Peter Alexander from 103 balls with 6 fours and 7 sixes. Peter and Greg Joiner (42 from 51 balls) put on 98 for the fourth wicket. Peter and Clive (23 from 25 balls) then added another 63 runs for the fifth wicket showing the value of batting in partnerships.

Greg Adnams on debut then took 4/19 from 5 overs, with good catching in the field, to have MUCC 1 reeling. Unfortunately rain came after 11.2 overs, well short of the 20 overs for a game. At this stage, MUCC 1 were 5/55.

This weekend 3rds and 4ths play on Saturday, whilst the 1sts are playing on Sunday. The following weekend there are no League matches, so put your name down for a game this weekend. The Dream Team returns next Saturday 29th April at Turf City against Bojangles.
