 Captains Fillies and Harrys

ANZA Cricket's 'Captains and Fillies' night at Kranji races was a splendid event with everyone showing the true NZACC fashion and style. All ANZA Cricket members and friends who attended looked terrific, with highlights being short skirts, big hats and heaving puppies.

Congratulations to Karen Whitton for winning the fashion in the field award, a trip to Bali or Kota Kinabalu (with or without the husband) donated by Australian Airlines. There was keen competition for the prize and it was a tough decision for our judges, Ron Holmes, Annette Tilbrook and Belle Morton. The four ANZA Cricket captains were each given $50 for a team bet with the winnings to be spent by the victors. Phil Render (Thirds) and Dave Robertson
(Dream Team) managed wins and put them on the bar back at Harry’s. Firsts and Seconds captains Steve Lynch and Darren Box lost their stakes, showing that batting ability and betting ability are not related.

Bottles of the finest spirits were donated as additional prizes and gratefully accepted by the lucky winners, one of whom (Alan Stewart) was kind enough to open his bottle of Canadian Club on the bus on the way to Harry's (I believe he is still looking for it). This certainly helped the captive audience appreciate the karaoke performances on the buses, with special mentions for Ben Hall's Unchained Melody and John Jackson's Beatles medley.

Upstairs at our sponsor's Harry's was a great place to continue the night; where the pool table was well attended, convivial conversations continued and in-depth cricket issues were discussed into the wee hours (defined as when Harry's closes).

It was great to see a lot of new faces on the night and some older ones as well. Thank you to everyone who attended and for everyone who contributed, especially the key organizer for the night, Brad Paterson.
