ANZA 1s lost the toss and were asked to bowl,
it finally porved to be a good toss to loose.
The wicket was spongy, when the ball hits the
ground, it waits for the batsmen to have a good
look at it and then play a shot. Our bowlers took
full use of the conditions. Sanjeev was on fire
as usual and picked up 4 wickets, Gary was smashed
all over the park (with a six ending up on the
other side of the road) but the gutsy skip kept
him on even after that which made Higgie to take
five wickets. SRC 1 made just 90, the new opening
Sri Lankan pair Kapila Mendis (49*) and Amila
(29) were off in their typical Sri Lankan style
smashing the bowlers and thus ANZA won by 9wkts.

Anza 3 v Schearing Plow 17th April
The day started really well
winning the toss for the first time this year
on a hot afternoon and of course deciding to bat.
Our new opening partnership of Uresh and Gary
striding out to the wicket, however we have still
yet to have an opening partnership this year and
both openers were back with 20 on the board mainly
in extras. Gus and Greg kept the scoreboard ticking
over with Greg in BJW style hitting it very hard,
but having scored 18 was out just before the first
drinks break. Gus then shared stands with Jodie
and Russell taking him passed 50 and going really
well with the score board rattling along, eventually
reaching his maiden hundred in senior cricket
in a stand with Martin. Both were out soon afterwards
but with 200 on the board enter Steve Whitton
and Steve Laybourn with Steve Whitton hitting
42 in 19 balls, “brutal” we ended
up at 262 for 8.
They to their credit decided
to go for it with Scott being charged by the opener
in the first over slogging to midwicket for 4.
However he soon perished an excellent catch by
Greg off Scott. Still they kept going worrying
I thought as the scoreboard raced on but a good
catch in the deep off Scott by Jodie saw the other
opener depart for a very rapid 46. The partnership
of there innings then developed taking them to
160 and Now needing 10 an over from the last 10
to win. But it had to end with the chances they
were taking and both fell in the same over from
Phil. With new batsmen at the crease 10 an over
was much more difficult and it would soon be 5
down thanks to an excellent stumping by Martin
from Gary’s bowling. Enter Gus for a second
spell having got a little tap in the first spell
he got 4 wickets in one over with daemon bowling
or PIES? and then got the last one cleaning up
number 11. They finished 194 all out after giving
it a real go and we had won by 68, thanks to some
good straight bowling and excellent catching Greg
finishing with 3 catches Jodie 2 and Martin 1
and a stumping.
